The Icelandic team of Valur Vífilsson (driver) and Harry Hólmgeirsson (owner) have taken their Procharged 516ci BBC dragster to new heights over the past couple of years. The duo just lowered the Iceland national record to an amazing 3.044 ET this past weekend at the annual Sandspyrna event. Check out the record breaking pass below!
Seeing this record breaking performance, WSDN took a closer look and saw that not only was the Vífilsson/ Hólmgeirsson team setting new ET records, but also reaching world record speeds for the (AA/D) AA/Dragster category. Their top speed of the event was 177.39KM/H (110.23MPH)! After speaking with Harry, we found out that they had actual run even faster speeds the previous year at the same event. At the 2019 Sandspyrna they clocked an outstanding 182.10KM/H (113.15MPH) max speed (while also setting the then Icelandic national record at a 3.064). That 182.10KM/H (113.15MPH) pass was backed up with pair of 180KM/H passes with the quicker being a 180.49KM/H (112.15MPH).
This shatters the previous record held by Tommy Zavala’s nitrous assisted Top Eliminator car set at 107.54MPH. Vífilsson and Hólmgeirsson are looking to go even faster and quicker aiming to lower the Icelandic national record to under the 3 second barrier. That would make them only the second sub-3.0 vehicle in Iceland’s history. For now though, they will have to settle for holding the (AA/D) AA/Dragster speed world record.
