Dome Valley Raceway Winter Shootout Sand Drags

Friday January 10, 2020

A light turnout on Friday suspended the early qualifying rounds of Top Alcohol, Top Eliminator, A-Fuel, and Pro Mod Unlimited, but plenty of test and tune action saw regulars and new faces back out at the track. The track surface here at Dome Valley Raceway only improved as the day went on and water was added to the track. Several competitors tried to use this to look for low ETs, but came up short with mechanical issues. Brock Racing showed up in force playing with new combinations that haven’t quite panned out yet. They also came bringing Lucas Oil products for winners of this weekends classes. The Starns/ Chapman backed Power Plus Special buggy came out looking to break their B/Pro Buggy record set in San Jacinto, CA in May of last year. Unfortunately the nitrous assisted VW buggy has been battling some gremlins and hasn’t laid down a representative time for the entry. Hopefully they can sort out the issues and give pilot Junior Alimoot a real missile to fire down the sand strip.

Racing action for Friday saw only a field set for an ATV Gambler. Plenty of killer reaction times and few that were a little too quick were seen in early elimination rounds. The Brock Racing entry ridden by Chris Carlson could not make first round leading to an odd number of entries. Grant Hutchinson took the first round bye and went all the way to the finals against Brad Olson in 4 stroke quad entry. Brad used a perfect reaction time to get the jump on Hutchinson and held the lead to the finish line to take the Friday ATV Gambler win and his choice of Lucas Oil Products.
